California Correctional Crisis: Realignment and Reform

The Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal, the UC Hastings Criminal Justice Institute, and the California Correctional Crisis Blog presents:


The conference will examine the many changes and challenges that the State's correctional apparatus has been going through since 2009, when a federal three-judge panel found health care conditions in California prisons unconstitutional and attributed them to prison overpopulation. Since then, and after the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the order to reduce prison population, California has undergone a seismic change with regard to its correctional approach. One of the main changes has been the Criminal Justice Realignment.
